When I was asked to speak at the Pittsburgh Employment Conference on how to get a job, I almost turned it down, but I went ahead and did it because I liked speaking there so much. I had a bad experience in high school where after working a summer job, I was required to take a prevocational class. I hated it because I felt like I could teach the class. Getting hired is so much more than just correctly filling out the job application. You have to sell yourself, make them want to hire you. I got in a fight with the teacher and I told her to let me teach the class for a week and I'll teach everyone how to get hired. I never was given the chance.
so when I put my talk together, I did it as an outline of what I would have taught if I was given the chance. I have worked my entire life and at one point I had 3 jobs at one time. I now run my own business.
So I put my talk on an album and then put a bunch of songs on it. It's a mix of songs. My friend Blake Roberts did the song "Maker", which is on several of my albums. It was written by Virginia Jennah Ross Shank who for 3 years fought me because she didn't want me doing it. After 3 years of not taking me to court, the statue of limitations ran out. I wanted to pay her royalties, but she flat out didn't want me doing it after originally telling me I could.
I included the song on the album because sometimes you have to go after what you want. When seeking a job, don't be afraid to call them a few days later to show that you are really interested in the job. Too many people just sit back and hope for a call back. But if you show initiative, it can go a long way.
